Abstract
Oyster mushroom farming in Palawan was a growing business. The culturing of this kind of mushroom required certain atmospheric conditions namely air humidity and temperature. The oyster mushrooms in Palawan were still being farmed in a traditional way—the farmers sprayed water inside the mushroom house when they felt that the air was warm (Fuertes 2019). In connection, this research undertaking focused on the design and fabrication of an automatic humidifier system for the oyster mushroom house which maintained the relative humidity and temperature of air inside the mushroom house to the optimum range of values. In order to achieve the objective of this research work, the researchers created an Arduino Uno R3 program with GSM Module and Humidity sensor as main components. Furthermore a design of the mushroom house was made in order to conduct several testing for the functionality of the whole system. Based from the tests conducted, if the relative humidity inside the mushroom house decreased below 75%, the ultrasonic humidifier would automatically turn on. In contrast, if the humidity level increased above 75%, the ultrasonic humidifier would automatically turn off. As conclusion, the ultrasonic humidifier effectively functioned in a certain period of time depending on the present climatic conditions. The device also operated quickly and performed low time delays on powering on/off the ultrasonic humidifier and sending notifications through SMS by GSM Module. Lastly, the researchers recommended that another study should be conducted regarding the system and suggested some parts to be installed as further improvement.
Background of the Study
Oyster mushroom is type of edible fungi which grows with a strict requirement of environment and atmosphere. Despite the difficulty of growing and cultivating this kind of mushroom, its yummy oyster taste became an impetus for the mushroom growers to farm this kind of fungi (Zadrazil and Kurtzman, 1981).
Oyster mushroom farming was present in all parts of the globe. In the Philippines, this kind of farming also exists (Al Amin, 2004).
In Palawan, the oyster mushroom farmers uses the manual method of humidifying and cooling the atmospheric air. Such difficulty and cumbersome method of manual spray will be aided by an automatic humidifying and temperature control system. An automatic humidifier system humidifies the atmosphere inside the mushroom house (Ybarra, 2018).
